Oh my sad, sad social skills.

Usually I get the mice I feed Aven free from BYU. Since my mom works there, it's pretty easy. xD

Apparently my parents have been shopping lately though, and filling the freezer with all sorts of stuff. Aven's bag of mice have disappeared. I hate leaving him without food for a week, even if, as a cold-blooded animal, it doesn't make that big a difference.

So I went on a quick trip to Petco to buy him a mouse.

Nearly every time I go to Petco, it's the same guy running the cash register. Mostly he just rings up my purchase (nearly always a mouse) without saying anything more than he needs to. Today, maybe because he was a little curious about how I hadn't been there in a couple months, and then there I was buying a mouse again, he asked me what exactly I was feeding.

I'm sliding my debit card, and don't even look up as I mumble, "A corn snake."

I love to talk about things I know about, and could use a good reputation from at least one person at Petco since I'd love to work there, and I think if I had even just actually looked at him he would have replied and we could have had a short, fun little conversation (because to me, discussing reptile feeding habits is fun ;P). Or at least he might have at least had the courage to reply, even just an, "Oh." Instead he was just quiet, and seemed particularly impatient for the receipt to print.

Of course I had realized my mistake, so I managed a friendly "thank you" before leaving, but it was awkward.

And now it's just been bugging me. I hate it when I blow openings like that (and I really feel like this sounds like I wanted to flirt with him or something, but mostly it's just me being selfish and wanting someone who might put in a good word about my resume... xP).

I need social skills. Dx
